James (Jim) Palik
James Palik (Jim) is a photographer, writer, and teacher.
Photography: Jim’s specialities are event photography, architectural photography, and photographic art.
As a teenager in Santa Rosa, California, Jim was mentored by William Quandt, Ansel Adams’ former assistant at the California School of Fine Arts. During this time, he attended classes by Ansel Adams, driving to San Francisco once a week using his sister’s car (the price of gasoline was $0.18 per gallon).
Writing: In 1999, Hewlett Packard offered Jim the opportunity to move to Germany to manage technical documentation for the Network Support Laboratory. During his tenure with Hewlett-Packard Jim was a member of HP’s writer’s council and was responsible for HP’s “Word” style sheets in addition to teaching HP’s German technical writers how to write documentation in English. Jim retired from Hewlett Packard in 2005.
Teaching: Between 2006 and 2016 Jim taught digital photography at the Hochschule der Medien (Stuttgart Media University) in Stuttgart, Germany.
Jim Currently works contractually doing architectural photography, event photography and travel photography.
Jim has been the official photographer for the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Zentrum (DAZ) in Stuttgart since 2008. The DAZ is currently displaying 13 years of Jim’s event photography in the main hall and large conference room. This display can be seen between Tuesday and Friday during normal DAZ open hours.
As a member of Writers in Stuttgart, Jim is concentrating on a memoir of his more than 60 years of photography experience, in addition to exploring new genres.
