Hello Everybody, I am not going to be at today’s meeting. I am sorry to miss all of you. Have a good meeting and someone send me the minutes.

International Human Rights Art Movement published my piece Red, Red Roses in the current issue of their Quarterly Literary Magazine. It can be ordered here: https://humanrightsartmovement.org/ihraf-publishes

I’ve already ordered 5 copies and if anyone wants a copy I can bring it to the next meeting. The cost is 9.49€. Just let me know!

Hello, all is going fine here and ofcourse
every one is sharing facts, that’s in fact good, keep up writing.

  6. Jim

The meeting minutes for June 8 are now posted.

  7. Katherine

Forgot- I also mentioned Chill Subs- a website/database/substack newsletter to submit to literary journals, small/medium sized literary presses. To get access to their full service it is 50$ (US dollars) a year. With their free plan you can still search their database (though not with keywords) and use the submission tracker.

I mentioned this creativity accountability group through Ann Ditmeyer, a creative coach I have worked with before. She is based in Paris. She is holding one of her accountability group this summer starting June 21. It lasts for three months. I pasted the website below. I hope you can see it.

  9. Andrea

    Dear WiSsers,

Katherine B. asked about literary events in and near Stuttgart, so here’s a recommendation I have found online:

    Internationales Literaturfestival Heidelberg: 20th – 30th June:

    Go to feelit.de for details.

    Sincerely,

    Andrea

    Hi Everyone,
I am down to chair on June 8th. Could someone please advise on the responsibilities of the chair? Thanks!

    1. Jim

      Really simple, Katharine
      1. Start the meeting no later than 10:15 – make sure there is a minutes taker
      2. Tell everyone that business will be last
      3. Ask who will be reading
      4. Start the prompt – 20 minutes and time it
      5. End the prompt
6 Ask for prompt readers ( check them off by attendance
      7. Start the first reading.
      8. Ask for comments by
9 When no more comments – ask if any new business

    Hi Everyone,

I mentioned yesterday that my “chimera” poem I workshopped with the group was chosen as a semi-finalist in Lefty Blondie Press editor broadside series.
I also have a poem published recently in Anodyne Magazine based in Berlin in their Vol. 2 issue.

  19. Katherine Breeden

I will come to the DaZ with my computer and can log in to zoom

  20. Katherine Breeden

    Hi,

Is no one planning on coming to the in person meeting?

I wish there was a way to RSVP to meetings to avoid confusion.

Subject: LAST ATTEMPT! 16 Themes for October’s reading to be voted on today

Please pick 3 favorites (your #1s) and we will vote on any that get at least 3! I will collate the ones who get 3 votes, so we can narrow down the number to vote on.

    Fierce Flights and Gentle Landings
    Bread & Circuses
    PossibilityLand
    Deadlines
    Dumbfounded
    Lost and Found
    The Royal Scam
    Visions and Revisions
    A Piece of Cake
    Sliding Meanings
    My Favorite Mistake
    Live and Learn
    Family Myths
    Fleeting Thoughts, Flying Words!
    My Slice of xxx
    Broken Dreams

    1. Katherine Breeden

I thought this was to be voted on today in person and not through member comments, which is why I have not voted.

  22. Erica

URGENT!!! If anyone is coming in person to the DAZ this morning, and/or is bringing a laptop, and/or knows how to hook up to the zoom participants, please let me know ASAP!!! Otherwise, if there are 3 or less at the DAZ and we can’t hook up to the other participants who are on zoom, I will leave and let someone on zoom handle the meeting and this will be my last attempt to attend an in person meeting for all time. There is a new surge of covid in Stuttgart and I would not come today if I hadn’t promised to try!

  23. Erica

Also, No one has responded to my requested for weighing in on number one choices for the themes proposed, except for Jadi & Cindy, who are voting their own submissions. I thought we could narrow down the number and maybe choose from any theme that got 3 number ones from the membership.

  24. Dr. Erica

I have not heard anything about who is bringing a laptop to the DAZ tomorrow. If we can’t hook up a hybrid meeting, I will go home and join the Zoom or maybe simply abdicate.

  25. Cindy

    Hello WiSers,
I was planning to come to the DAZ in person and take the minutes but since I have an eye operation next week, i’ve decided it is better that I don’t risk getting an infection and my eyes need a rest. My votes for the theme are My Slice of xxx, and Family Myths.
    Have a good meeting.
    Cindy

  26. Jim

    Hello Wisers
I will open a ZOOM meeting sometime before 10:00 is someone does not beat me to it. I assume that Andrea will be at the DAZ. I do not know.
Erica is the chair and Jadi is taking minutes.
I look forward to tomorrow’s meeting.
    Jim

  27. Jadi Campbell

Hi Erica, all your comments have shown up. For remote viewing, it always works when someone brings a laptop to the in-person meeting. Uwe and I are away at a birthday party tomorrow night so I can’t come in person but will attend virtually. To save a little time, note my 3 top votes for our reading theme : The Royal Scam; Bread & Circuses; My Favorite Mistake.

Jim my offer to volunteer for minutes was for May, but I can do them tomorrow. See y’all then!

  28. Dr. Erica

I tried 4 times to leave a comment but it disappeared. More I can’t do. How will we hook up tomorrow for remote viewing? Will someone please advise!

  29. Erica

ONCE AGAIN: HERE ARE THE PROPOSED THEMES!!!
Fierce Flights and Gentle Landings Bread & Circuses PossibilityLand Deadlines Dumbfounded Lost and Found The Royal Scam Visions and Revisions A Piece of Cake Sliding Meanings My Favorite Mistake Live and Learn Family Myths Fleeting Thoughts, Flying Words! My Slice of xxx Broken Dreams

  30. Erica

I just wrote a long comment including the format to the upcoming meeting. Don’t know where it went! We need someone to volunteer to do the MINUTES!
FORMAT: 1. We will vote 1st on the theme, so please come prepared to vote for your favorites of the ones posted below (and also sent to your emails). 2. Prompt.
    3. Cihan, Michael and Jim (in that order) will read their pieces for critique.

    1. Jim

      Hi Erica,
Will you please have the vote for the theme at the end of the meeting after the readings?
The theme and readings are a priority. The vote is business.
Jadi volunteered to do the minutes.
      Jim

  31. Jim

    Thank you, Jadi,

I will be there. Hopefully, I will have something to read.

    Jim

  32. Jadi

I will be able to attend in Zoom but not in person this Saturday. I volunteer to take the Minutes for May 4.

  33. Michael

Hi everyone, (I hope I am doing this right). I am going to do my best to attend next Saturday’s meeting (13.04), and will have something – fairly short – that I’d like to workshop. I’ll do my very best to attend the entire meeting!

  34. Erica

Great News! Florian has informed me that he’ll be happy to provide the music at our next reading in October! See you all on the 13th!

  35. Erica

3 more theme suggestions have been proposed. Please enter them into your voting list!
No more will be accepted after next Monday!
    Family Myths
    My Slice of xxx
    Broken Dreams

  36. Erica

    We’ll vote the ones!

  37. Erica

    Hi All!
Since I’m chairing the next meeting on April 13th, I’d like our vote for a theme for our October reading to take as little time as possible, so we can focus on our writing! Here are some proposals that have been received. Please vote 3, 2, or 1 (for your most favorite) & add any of your own suggestions very soon, if you have one to propose!

    Fierce Flights and Gentle Landings
    Bread & Circuses
    PossibilityLand
    Deadlines
    Dumbfounded
    Lost and Found
    The Royal Scam
    Visions and Revisions
    A Piece of Cake
    Sliding Meanings
    Fleeting Thoughts, Flying Words!
    My Favorite Mistake
    Live and Learn
Hope y’all enjoyed your Easter holidays!
    Best,
    Erica

In the spirit of “achievements and accolades”, I’ll promote once more the publication of my debut story collection, “What The Statue Thinks”, available for order now via Amazon from Wild Ink Publishing! (link below)

    1. Jim

Thank you for the information Michael. I am working on the framework for this now. I will first add the link to the “members Only” page for the membership to approve the layout and my concept on how to maintain it. I will be in touch.
Thank you for being the first member to pay the 2024 dues

Topics for the agenda for the annual meeting:

    – Publishing Anthologies
    – How can the group help boost each member’s writing career
    – Meeting form: In-person vs. hybrid vs. remote
    – Group Communication
    – Membership Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators

    1. Jim

      Thanks for the posting Cihan

  45. Katharine

Super, Jadi! Just keep on keepin’ on! You are going places, sister.
Very glad we were able to support you on this one.

  46. Jadi

I have great news to share. The University of Colorado in Boulder, Writing and Rhetoric Program, wants my story Family Myths for their Hindsight Journal. No money, but I get copies, and the journal is sold at college writing program events all over the country. I workshopped this story with the group and read it at a reading. Thanks to all for your invaluable feedback.

    1. Katherine

Wow! That’s wonderful news Jadi! Congratulations!

  47. Jim

Hi everybody – Please think about what you want to put on the agenda for the annual meeting on February 10.
    .
What do you think works. What do you think does not work. Post your agenda wish list here in Members’ Comments,
    .
This is supposed to be the one meeting a year that is mandatory. Please attend

  48. Jadi Campbell

I spoke with Charles Urban about the possibility of switching our Dark Monday reading month to April and he is agreeable – I told him we would vote on this at the next meeting. If we want that April slot, it is ours.

    1. Jim Palik

Thank you Jadi for using comments – I am hoping more members reply with agenda suggestions for the annual meeting

  49. Katharine

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for your work on the banner, and for the member news! Nice to have us all neatly listed on the banner.

I have one question, though: Hasn’t Diane Martinez gone back to the States, and thus left us, too?

    Best,
    Katharine

    1. Jim Palik

      Hi Katharine,
I did not know that. Even if she did, technically she paid her dues for the year and could still attend meetings if she wanted to get up that early. Thanks for the comment.

      Jim

So far only Cihan has responded – and terrifically, at that – here is our suggested blurb for the January reading with changes. If I don’t hear from anyone else by tomorrow, we can begin using it for our official marketing and I will send this to Charles Urban for NEAT and Merlin to use.

    —Jadi

It’s Harvest time. What will we reap with the start of the new year? Before we can begin to plant new crops, we have to sweep away the old. Habits, deeds, and lessons… on our own and as a planet, the time of reckoning has arrived.

Are you brave enough to Harvest?

  52. Erica

Hi Jim, I just logged on and password for the website still works. I also logged into zoom (which I updated this morning on my computer) and it too is working.
Hope all is going well with the move. Please send my love to Jane.
    “See” you tomorrow!
    Erica

  53. Jim

    Hello Everybody,
The January minutes are Now posted on the website.
    .
Please everybody pay your dues this week. I will be changing the password prior to the February meeting. Only paid members will be given the new password.
    .
NOTE – Jadi needs everyone to send her the issues that need to be discussed at the annual meeting February 11.

    See you all February

    Dear Writers in Stuttgart,

Marion Danzeisen from the DAZ is asking us as a DAZ group to participate in a mini-survey of the DAZ.

The DAZ employees are required to do surveys to continue to receive certain funding and it would be super helpful if you (and ideally the group) could take a few moments to answer some questions about the DAZ and their work. The polls are open until the end of January, every vote helps, and it could be done either in English or in German 😊

    German: https://www.surveymonkey.de/r/K9WJH5R
    English: https://www.surveymonkey.de/r/HVDSGKM

If you happen to communicate via email with the group, I would highly appreciate if you could include this ❤

    Thank you so much!
    Warm regards,
    Marion

Hi everyone, I hope Dark Monday was a great success! I can’t attend the next meeting but I can offer to do the prompt on March 4 since I see it’s still open on the meeting calender, unless, of course, you’ve already decided. Looking forward to seeing you all!

  56. Erica

Does anyone (Jim?) know the MEETING DATES FOR 2023? I wanted to put them on my calendar, but I couldn’t find them on the website! Please advise – especially let us all know when the January meeting is (so people will show up?)!!!! Thanks!
Good luck tomorrow! Sorry I won’t be there, but a rat never goes back to eat in the same place where she was recently poisoned and I like to think I’m at least (or almost) as smart as a rat! Stay safe Readlings! Please tell Florian I’m sorry to miss hearing him too! Best, Erica

The Meeting minutes for November 12 – Jim

  58. Jim

    Hi Jadi and Cindy,
Sorry about not looking at the notices from Member Comments. All I need is charles contact information and I will take care of it. This move and other thinks going one in our personal life have been taking priority.

    Jim

  59. Cindy

    Dear WiSers,
I just received a message from Charles saying he needs a description of our January reading. I wasn’t at the last meeting. Does anyone have anything I can send him? Please let me know ASAP. Thanks. Cindy

  60. Jadi Campbell

    hi Everyone,
24 hours and counting down before Uwe and I head to South Africa. .. I just received this email from Charles Urban, and would like to ask that one of you responds in the next few days as Charles knows that I’m about to leave town.
“DAZ and MERLIN are asking for information about the January – March DARK MONDAYS! I have them the title of the January show but if you could have someone in WIS send me a blurb of a description, that would be highly appreciated!”

Cindy, break a leg with the Panto! See you all hopefully as well on December 5 at Merlin for The Legend of Ole Bob Stuff!
    —Jadi

  61. Jadi Campbell

hi everyone, Barbara asked me to leave a message her for her that she will be in the Zoom Room at 9:00 tomorrow morning. If anyone has items to add to the Business Agenda (or just wants to check in!), she’ll be there. See you tomorrow!

She will have coffee and tea and a bottle of Sekt, sparkling water; you are welcome to bring special drinks, too! It would be great to have some non-dessert food too, things that are easy to serve and eat while we hang out.

    Dear WiSers,
The new week is upon us and the next scheduled monthly meeting is this coming Saturday 17 September of which I am chair. We still need a minute taker? Anyone want to volunteer in advance? Who will do the prompt? If you know in advance if you plan to have a piece critiqued – please send me ahead of time a short E-mail for planning purposes. If you already know if you will or won’t be there – that would also be helpful. Hope to see many of you there. Until then – have a good week.
    Warm greetings,
    Cindy

  65. Dan

    Hi everyone,

I’ll be attending the meeting on the 13th an can take minutes. See you

  66. Jim

Who plans on attending the regular meeting (August 13) on Saturday. We need a Chair and a minute taker.

Please reply with either a yes or no so we all know how many to plan for?

    Jim

    1. Danielle

      Hi All,

Sorry to fall off the face of the planet the past few months. Too much work (good, but stressful), and I am now traveling until Sept. 7. We’ll be en route between the Catskills and NYC on the 13th, so can’t be there. BUT I have somehow been working on some new stuff, and hope to see you all in September.

      Dani

  67. Jim

I never received the minutes from our July 16 meeting. Will the person who took the minutes please send them to me. Thank you,
    .
I look forward to the seeing you all there next Saturday (August 13) We still do not have a chair or a minute take for next Saturday’s meeting. Will someone step-up to chair the meeting. Will someone step-up to take minutes.
    .
    Thank you, Jim

  68. Cindy

    Hi WiSers,
Just wanted to say it wasn’t my intention to leave the meeting today without saying good-bye – I somehow pushed a wrong
button on my phone. But the meeting was ending anyway so I didn’t login again just to say good-bye. Nice to see everyone again. Have a good rest of the week-end.
    Ciao,
    Cindy

  69. Jim

Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying the warmest summer we have had since Jane and I moved here more than 20 years ago.
    .
We finally got paid $300.00 for our share of the receipts from the Merlin reading. Not bad. I will have an update on our bank account at the next meeting.
We still need a chair and minutes taker for the July 16 meeting. Will someone please step up?
    .
I look forward to seeing all of you on July 16,
    Jim

  70. Erica

    To All,
Anyone coming to the Zoom write-in tomorrow morning at 10am just to say hello?
    Please let me know!
    Erica

  71. Jim

The meeting minutes are posted. Please everyone, Look at the website and the new menu structure. Remember, the website is the place for member communications.

  72. Katharine

    Hi fellow WiSers,
    .
I am writing to let you all know that we are meeting this coming Saturday, and I will be your host. If anyone has a topic for the agenda, please let me know. Also, I am checking … Barbara, are you doing the prompt this time?
    .
Finally, we need someone to take the minutes for this meeting.
    .
I am looking forward to seeing a bunch of you on Saturday!
    .
    Best wishes,
    Katharine

    1. Cindy

      Dear WiSers,
Once again I will not be able to join you as I am on a two day nature excursion over the week-end. As I am doing two major further education certificates this year (Gewässerführer and Fachberater für Gartenbau) – and have exams in October – this won’t be my last meeting I will have to miss this year. I’ll see you when I can. Have a good meeting and keep the home fires burning. Take care, Cindy

    2. Vlora

      Hi Katharine and everyone,

I’d like to let you all know I haven’t completely disappeared and am still planning to join meetings again. Unfortunately, I’ve been busy moving house and this Saturday I have to be in Tübingen at 12.30 for a bachelorette party for a good friend of mine, so I won’t be able to make it, but I’m hoping things will get a little less crazy in the next few months. I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing you again in June!

  73. Jim

    Hello everyone,
Covid brain Jim forgot to tell everyone that the April minutes have been posted.
Sorry, Dani. You provided me with the final minutes faster than anyone. I took me more than a week to get them posted and then I forgot to tell everyone.
    Jim

  74. Dani

    Hi guys,

After much delay, I’ve finally created our instagram account. I’m holding off on Twitter because nobody in Germany seems to use it…

I created an intro post using the photo from the Facebook page, and I’m about to create one with yesterday’s prompt.

Please share any photos from the reading! Just make sure anyone pictured has agreed to be on Instagram. (I’ll follow up, as well.)

Check it out and give a follow if you’re on instagram.

    https://www.instagram.com/writestuttgart/

Andrea, can you share the link to Facebook for our fans? At some point we can also link the two. (I’ll follow up with you, no rush.)

    Dani

PS: The minutes from yesterday are currently in the Meeting Minutes folder on Google Drive, in case anyone wants to have a sneak peak before Jim posts them here.

  75. Dani

    Hi All,

Erica, Barbara, and I are here. Barbara has a great prompt ready for us. Anyone else going to come?

  76. Jim

    Hi everybody,
I will not be able to attend the meeting tomorrow, April 9 due to a conflict. The chair is Irene. We still need a minutes taker. Please refer to the Meeting dates in the Members Only menu. The dates are accurate for the whole year.
    .
Reminder, do not your Webmaster New for comments. Youse Member Comments.
    .
    Jim

  77. Jim

Hi Wisers, the March minutes are now posted, Jim

  78. Jim

Hi everybody – Great job Monday night – Jim

    1. Cindy

I second that. I’m so glad we had more than an audience of three. I felt like I knew everyone there. It’s always the same – preaching to the choir. But it was a nice choir. Thanks for sending out your mailing list. It worked! I think we provided a memorable evening. Good job every one.

Hi Folks, here is what Charles Urban wrote to me about music for Dark Monday: “Erica recently inquired about a keyboard for Florian. He has his own keyboard which is almost identical to the NEAT instrument. If he wants to use the NEAT keyboard, it is at MUSEO and I left the key to Room 6 with Elena. OR Florian may use the real piano at MERLIN; it‘s behind the black curtain, stage right!”

Sounds like we’re all set for music for the reading!
    Have a great Sunday,
    Jadi

  80. Cindy

    Hi Erica,
Even though it’s not a rehearsal, I’d like to read my reworked Teacup piece. I hope that is ok. I just realized I’m the minute taker too.
Why do I not see your comment here under comments? I don’t understand.
    See you tomorrow.
    Ciao,
    Cindy

  81. Jadi

I want everyone to be sure to have the information on how the Dark Monday reading will go, so I’m reposting the email I received from Charles Urban.

“Jadi – For the April performance of the WRITERS IN STUTTGART, I’ve also done and will continue to do the advertising up to and including the day of performance. The WiS have always performed in the Cafe space – without a hired Light & Sound Technician – and this is the first time that you will be using the larger stage at MERLIN due to Coron regulations.
Here too, my suggestion is that WiS receive the full 70% of the Box Office because you will have to pay €70 for the services of Martin Haufler, the regular Light & Sound Technician for NEAT performances in the auditorium.
The €70 for the Martin Haufler are well invested and by the way less than half of what another technician would receive. In all the time we have been performing there, Martin was sick once and we needed an outside Technician; he asked for €150; which was the normal price then. It’s probably even more now…
So, it would be good if you met with Martin at 17:30 hrs on the day of your respective performances and explain to him what your requirements for Sound and Lighting are. He will do everything to make your show look and sound good! He likes to be done with the setup and sound check at 19:00 hrs, so that he can grab a bite to eat before the show. That is also often the time at which the first members of the audience tend to arrive for a drink before the show.
Please pay Martin before the performance.
It is normal for MERLIN to transfer 70% of the Box Office to the NEAT account in the week after the DARK MONDAY shows. Please give Susanna your Bank Information so that she can transfer the funds to the PaperMoon and Writers in Stuttgart accounts.
I wish you a lot fun with your DARK MONDAY shows!
    Ciao,
    Charles

    Hi everyone,
I have signed up to chair the May meeting, just a heads-up, in case anyone else is working on their calendar over the weekend. 🙂

    Best wishes,
    Katharine

  83. Cindy

    Dear WiSers,
I know this coming Saturday is our annual “mandatory” meeting but I have a scheduling conflict. I will be out in the field as of 9.30.
We should finish by 12.00. I will try to check into the meeting via my smart-phone noonish during the lunch break. This way I should
at least be there for the business part of the meeting.
Jim – you can put my down to be the minute taker for March.
    All for now.
    Take care,
    Cindy

  84. Cindy

    Hi Jim,

I have transferred €894.63 to your account in the name of WiS.
Attached is the last finance report I did. I have not updated it for 2022.
The people who paid their dues for 2022 are as follows:

Vlora, Irene, Helen, Jadi, Jim, Erica, Andrea, Sentimius-Dan, Danielle and Barbara.

I will send this information out via the WiS website as well.

Hope you and Jane are doing well.

    Take care,
    Cindy

Saturday, 29.01: Hi WiSers! I showed up for a write-in today at 9:45 and stayed on zoom until 10:22. No one else arrived by then, so I signed off and now I’m going to try to make getting up early, washing my hair and getting gussied up to be seen by polite society, worthwhile. Sorry to miss seeing ya’ll!

P.S. Jim, I paid dues for both myself and Andrea by bank Ueberweisung on Monday the 17th of January! I hope you & Jane are being properly pampered at the Kur and that Jane is getting stronger! Best Wishes for good health to you both! Stay safe! Virtual hugs, E.

  86. Dan

    Hello everyone.
If it’s all right, I’ll be paying my dues too and join the group more permanently.
I’m on the road at the moment but look forward to our next meeting in February.
    Wish you all the best

  87. Jim

    Hell all WiSers,
    .
    1. Remember, 25,00€ 2022 Dues are due on January 20th. If you have not paid, please pay now. I will be changing the Membership Login password before the February annual meeting.
    2. Jadi will be chairing the annual meeting. She needs your input on what you want to discuss and vote on. Please email Jadi directly at jadi.campbell@t-online.de.
    3. The membership voted to have Cindy provide Jim, Irene, and Erica with the bank password. Jim will be the temporary treasurer.
    .
Thank you all for a lively meeting on Saturday,
    Jim

  88. Jadi

Hi Jim, the Home page should be changed to read: Each year in January, Charles Urban’s Dark Monday hosts the Writers in Stuttgart at the Merlin. Due to COVID, this year The Writers in Stuttgart date has been changed to April 4, 2022 at the Merlin theater. Because of Covid-19, attendees must show proof of vaccination.

    Location:
    Merlin Theater
    Augustenstrasse 72
    70178 Stuttgart

    Time 20:00 h (8:00 pm)

    The theme is:

    “Shadow & Light”

Note: for planned readings, see our Event Schedule.

  89. Jadi

Cindy, good luck! We all look forward to SEEING YOU again.

  90. Jim

I just logged into ZOOM. The password change made by Danielle had no problems with the Website link. I am in now for anyone wishing to join early.
    Jim

  91. Danielle

    Hi All,

Cindy! Sorry to hear about your eye troubles. I hope the tests go well. Take it easy beforehand.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve successfully figured out the YouTube Livestream in advance of Monday’s online reading. I did have to change the zoom account password in order to gain access, and I’m currently logged in as Stuttgart Writers. I don’t think that this should affect our meeting for today, but just in case, let me know if you can’t get in! See you all in a few.

    Dani

  92. Cindy

    Dear WiSers,
My eye doctor here in Stuttgart has decided that I need to go to a special eye clinic in Munich to reassess the need for a cornea transplant. I am scheduled to go this coming week. As it turns out, I am not allowed to wear my contact lenses (which are “sclerale Schalen”) for several days before the appointment in order for them to do all their tests without the influence of wearing lenses. Regretfully, this means I can’t take part in tomorrow’s meeting or the online reading on Monday. I wish you a good meeting and rehearsal and literally hope to “see” you in a new light soon.
    Take care,
    Cindy

  93. Cindy

    Hi WiSers,
This is my LAST APPEAL for someone to step up and take over the responsibilities of being treasurer for this group. As you know, I have tried unsuccessfully to get rid of this job for the last two years. I don’t think that anyone disputes that doing it for six years is enough. The current situation is forcing me to think of some unpalatable drastic measures. Jim wants me to give him the password so he can see who has paid their dues so that only those members will be able to continue to use the internal part of the website. In the past I have been happy to give him this list but I am not going to do it this year. I don’t think that Jim should be responsible for doing this since he has enough on his hands with the website. Jadi suggested I give the password to the whole group but i really don’t like this solution either. So what should I do? Close the account down and run? Put the money in a shoebox the way we did in the old days? Does anyone else have any palatable suggestions?
The deadline for dues is the 20 of THIS month. The deadline for someone other than Jim to CALL ME UP PERSONALLY under +49 170 3855 326 is 16 January 2022. I will give the password VERBALLY to whoever calls me up and then I guess it is up to that person to see what happens next. At this point I can only trust in the universe to come up with some reasonable solution.
    Take care,
    Cindy

Hi Writers, a potential new member needs help getting his creative writing up to speed: he will pay someone to work with him. With his permission I am posting his contact information here. Get in touch with Patrick Planing if you are interested in being paid to coach him.

    Happy New Year everybody,
    .
I want to thank Danielle for creating the “Member Responsibilities 2022” spreadsheet in Google Suite. Please click Google Suite in the Members Only menu and click the “Member Responsibilities 2022” spreadsheet to select the date you will chair and take minutes. I will check this page before each meeting and keep the website updated.
    .
As I mentioned at the rehearsal meeting, I will not be able to read at the next reading. Jane has had long covid for more than a year. Her pulmonary doctor has scheduled her to attend a rehabilitation clinic in Bad Dürrheim for three weeks from January 19 through February 9th. I will also be going to be with her.
    .
Remember everybody, our 25.00€ annual dues must be paid by January 20th. Please see the “Bank Information” in the Members Only menu for the transfer information. I will be updating the Membership Roster, Member’s Mailing List, and changing the password to access the Members Only page based on the payment of 2022 dues before the February 20 Annual Meeting. This new password will be sent to everybody that has paid their dues. The February 20th Annual Meeting is the only meeting in the year that is mandatory.
    .
Thank you all for a great year in 2021. Being a member of this group always helps my writing. I want all of you to know how much I cherish your feedback.
    Jim

  96. Erica

Hi All! Is it 6 or 7pm tonight? I’ll be there! Happy New Year to Y’all! Erica

  97. Jadi

I will be able to attend the rehearsal tonight for a bit – see you then.

  98. Jadi

Hi Jim, the Events page needs to be changed as it’s no longer a live event (and probably won’t even be on the 17th…) thanks, and Happy New Year!

  99. Jadi

Cindy you can read your piece twice. There’s no reason we can’t do them again in April if we want. All options are open I think

  100. Cindy

    Jadi,
I think that is a good idea. AT OUR LEISURE sounds good. If we move up the date – especially the 7 January rehearsal date, then I will be more keen to participate in an online thing but under the condition that it is time limited available. But I still prefer to read my piece LIVE and I guess I would have to think of a new piece for the online version. We will see. All for now.
    Best wishes,
    Cindy

  101. Jadi

Hi again, Dani has generously agreed to putting together a Zoom reading for January if we want to go ahead with one. The group is split down the middle about doing a Zoom show, and unanimous in wanting to do a show in April. I had an idea, and I propose the following: we take the April Dark Monday slot for sure AND put together a Zoom reading AT OUR LEISURE for January. There is absolutely no reason it has to be on January 17. The date was changed several times anyway, so perhaps we could agree to do an online reading once the holiday have passed, everyone is less stressed, and we don’t have the pressure of a date. What say you??

  102. Erica

    Hi Everyone!
Disappointed about Merlin having no money for filming, I’d be very happy to postpone until April and to DEFINITELY grab that date. If others want to ALSO do the zoom meeting on 17th January, I would participate, but I’m not gung ho. Florian is out of town on the 7th & 8th, but is still happy to join in, so we might want to make our plans with this in mind, so I can let him know asap what we decide. He might want to attend a zoom rehearsal when we do a read thru, to get an idea of what he’ll be doing.
So Happy Holidays to all! “See you on the 7th!? (another question – will we still have that rehearsal? Depends on what we decide!) Best Wishes, Erica 🍎

    1. Cindy

      Hi WiSers,
I’m definitely for APRIL and nay for Zoom. I am sooo sick of online….
Wishing everyone happy holidays and a healthy and happy and productive 2022.
      Christmas wishes,
      Cindy

    ***IMPORTANT NEWS***
    Hi Everyone,
I’m posting this news here on our website and will send it out in emails as well to make sure everyone gets the information as soon as possible.

Charles Urban has informed me that Merlin will remain closed until the end of January. Charles promptly asked them about filming or streaming shows again in 2022, beginning with our January Dark Monday reading. Unfortunately, the reply was that at this time no financial aid for such shows is being planned for 2022.
In GOOD news, Charles has offered us the April 4 Dark Monday reading slot! I went ahead and accepted on our behalf to secure the date, with the caveat that I would have to run the idea by our group before it was final.
Also, if we want to go ahead with a Zoom-produced show for January 17th , Charles will put it up on the NEAT YouTube site. Do we want to do this? If yes, who will organize it — we no longer have the magical Ayo to guide us through it.
Writers, we should vote immediately on the options.
    1. Do we want to do a Zoom reading? Yes or no.
    2. Do we want to accept the April 4 Dark Monday date for our Shadow and Light reading? Yes or no.
    3. Do we want to do both dates? Yes or no.
    4. If we want to go ahead with a Zoom reading, does someone in the group have the knowledge to pull it off?
A few points to think about. In these pandemic times there is no shame in cancelling a performance. Indeed, in many ways it is the single smartest thing we can do. It frees everyone up from the stress of dealing with COVID, the holidays, and a chaotic ending to the year. On the other hand we are well-rehearsed and everyone has written wonderful work and we’re ready for our show! If we can pull together a Zoom reading I know it would be good. For me, knowing we have that April date removes most of the disappointment about not being able to read live in January. Merlin’s decision not to make funds available for filming is out of our hands. It’s a drag and a disappointing turn of events, but this entire year has been all about staying flexible. (Myself, I’m beginning to feel like those bamboos on Barbara’s balcony!)
I know everyone is in the countdown to Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but if we could make some choices, I will get back to Charles with our decisions. Let’s please do all the discussing via the website so everyone sees it.
    Thanks,
    Jadi

    1. Jim

      Hi all,
I vote No to doing a year end ZOOM reading and Yes to accepting the April Dark Monday.
      Jim

  104. Jadi

Hi to those who plan to be at the rehearsal tomorrow morning (Saturday December 18, 10:00). Please send me titles of your piece and an updated biography as I’m putting the programme together… thanks,
    Jadi

    1. Cindy

      Hi Jadi,
I can’t come tomorrow as we are all day in our Fachberaterkurs für Gartenbau…
My piece is called Teacup. As to bio – can you send me the version you have so I can
      see if it needs changing.
      Thanks.
      Have a good meeting.
      Ciao,
      Cindy

WANT TO READ YOUR PIECE BEFORE CHRISTMAS?

    Hi again,
Now I am passing on a request from Tiffany LeClerc. I had tried posting it before, but realized when I posted the last message that it somehow didn’t go through. Many of you may know Tiffany from her performances with NEAT, or as a singer with a band that plays around the Stuttgart area. She is asking is anyone might be able to read a story, poem, or present another creative work at:
    ADVENTBASAR WANGEN WALDHEIM
    Sunday, Dec. 19, from 12-14.30 p.m.
If you are interested, please get in touch with Tiffany at 0178 876 1608. She is on WhatsApp.

    Best,

    “RESPONSIBILITIES GRID”
    Hi fellow writers,

I just looked at the December minutes, and first off, would like to give a shout-out to Jim and Erica for a very nice-looking set of minutes! It’s very easy to follow the contents, and it looks like everything is there. While I’m shouting out, also thanks to Barbara for a prompt that resounded with all of us!

While I was looking at the minutes, I got a suggestion across the bottom of my screen to check out a grid from 2019 that listed the tasks for our meetings, and who is responsible for each one. I took a look, and thought, great, this is an easy way to check out who is running which meeting, and who is doing minutes. But then I saw that the grid was empty for 2020, let alone 2021. So I went to check on Google Suite, but did not see anything comparable there. And then when I wanted to go back to the grid, I couldn’t find it.
My question: Can we please get this grid or equivalent back in operation, and easily findable and “clickable” within the list in the right-hand column under “Members Only,” at best, right below the link for the Zoom meeting? I myself am unsure about whether I am supposed to take minutes for the January meeting — I though I was, but I don’t see that in the December minutes.
Thanks, Jim, and anyone else who can help with this.

    Best wishes,
    Katharine

    1. Jim

      Hi Katharine,
I was just doing a catch-up on comments and you are scheduled for the January minutes. Look at the Meeting Dates on the site, the grid you are talking about is there. I asked Danielle if she would create a Google Suite for a January to December 2022 table for signups. As soon as she does, I will populate the Meeting Dates as people sign-up.
      Jim

Dear Jim, As per your request, I’m writing this to let you know I had no problem accessing the website and also, that I received the latest message (cc’d to SAM) from you in my email a few minutes ago, but do not see any mention of it on the website! By the way, did Nadia Duran receive the info from you about how to join our meeting yesterday? I just read Jadi’s comment from Oct. 22nd below and realized Nadia was not at our meeting!
Warm Regards to you & Jane and stay safe & healthy, Erica

    1. Cindy

I don’t know if Nadia received the info from Jim on how to join our monthly meetings but we were both at the same casting/reading this week and I asked her about her WiS membership plans/dues and she told me she doesn’t plan to join til next year when she has more time.

  110. Danielle

    Hi All,

Looking forward to the meeting this weekend and to seeing all your faces again (or for the first time).

As a reminder, I’m leading the meeting this month. I plan to log in a bit before 10, though I think anyone is welcome to log into the zoom earlier, if desired.

If you like, let me know if you have any work to share or business to add to the agenda.

    Best wishes,
    Dani

PS: Sending this out in email and putting it on the Member Comments, just in case, so sorry if you got two emails!

  111. Jadi Campbell

    Hi Everyone,

Nadia Duran is a past member of the Writers in Stuttgart who is returning to the group! You may have seen her in any number of terrific NEAT performances, most recently in Dolores.

I am sending notice of her wish to come back as an email as well as on our website as she doesn’t yet have access to the website. According to our rules, as a former (I prefer the term, ‘lapsed’, with all its connotations of someone who has strayed but hopefully will soon return to the fold), ahem, as a former member, Nadia is simply grandfathered/grandmothered back into the group.

Jim, please send Nadia the info she needs to access our Zoom meetings and the Write-Ins as well as to the website. To our poets (you know who you are), Nadia will be joining your esteemed ranks soon. And I happen to know she writes stories for children, too….

Cindy, please send Nadia the details she’ll need to pay her dues.

Nadia, please pay the 25€ annual dues. Of course, you can attend three meetings to decide if we’re still your cup of tea.

I know we will all greet her return with huzzas and hurrahs. Welcome back, Nadia!

    —Jadi

  112. Jadi

I was told that NEAT will be holding all events in the large back room at Merlin. Our January reading will be in the back as we requested!

    Hello everybody.
This should be the last comments message. The engineer at Hostmonster just sent me an email saying that he made a couple of changes that should fix the problem. He did find that several emails were being bounced at the mailing list recipients provider.
I will check with you on Saturday to confirm that you all got this email from Comments.

    Dear WiSers,
My post from this morning apparently did not go through. So let’s see if I can recreate it. I said that I will open the meeting at 9.40 to let people have time for a coffee and chitchat AND so that we can start ON TIME. Erica will be doing the prompt. I will be following the meeting guidelines set at the annual meeting – which means business will not be discussed until 12.30. According to the last minutes – the business will probably be used to discuss whether or not there will be a reading in October. I am assuming that half an hour is not going to be enough time to resolve all the issues (line-up, moderator, program, etc. etc.) and as suggested in some previous meeting – a committee will probably need to be set up to discuss rehearsal dates and so on. I have a LIVE workshop in Stuttgart right after our meeting so I can’t stay one minute longer. If someone wants to take over after this – to discuss any loose ends – that would be great. I just wanted to give everybody a heads up. That’s more or less what I said this morning as best as I can recall. OK. All for now. See you tomorrow morning.

    1. Jim

      Hi Cindy,
I got both this post and your test post.

    Hi Guys,

I just wanted to share that I had an essay published in a small online literary magazine called Oyster River Pages. It’s called Still Life in the Garden, and you can read it here:

    https://www.oysterriverpages.com/essays-51/2021/still-life-in-the-garden

This is actually the essay I used to apply to this group, so I’m really excited to share the final version with you all.

    Best wishes,

Hi Danielle! Just seeing this – congratulations!! This is wonderful news. I am about to head over to the magazine to read it. Again, congratulations. – Jadi

        Good Job,

Dear WISers, I’m having Cataract surgery tomorrow, so if all goes as planned, I may not be able to read & write for 4 to 10 days. Also, Cindy is having her cornea transplant tomorrow. It’s a much bigger op than mine and I’m sending this, hoping she sees it before. Wishing you all SUCCESS Cindy!!!.

    Hope to “see” y’all soon!

****** Mark your calendars for July 5 – my piece Hard Times in Sugar Town will premiere for Dark Monday at Merlin Theater! Derrick Jenkins will read the story and Tiffany Estrada and Frank are singing songs from the Depression Era. Limited seating due to COVID-19 will be available. The evening will be available for viewing on NEAT’s YouTube channel from July 6th-on. I’m honored and excited to be a part of this evening!

  126. Danielle

    Hi All,

I can’t make the beginning of the meeting either. I’m so sorry, kids stuff. I’m going to try to sign in later for the critiques.

    Danielle

  127. Cindy

    Dear WiSers,

    Sorry but I can’t make today’s meeting.
But I would like to throw in my two cents
as to the theme for the October reading.
If I remember correctly, Erica suggested something like
“Light at the end of the tunnel”.

I personally would like a title that is ambiguous that reflects the
ambiguity of our times – of not knowing where all of this is heading.
So for lack of something better – my idea is something like
“Light and Shadows” … or something along those lines.

    Have a good meeting.
I look forward to reading the minutes of what happened today.

    Take care,
    Cindy

Can someone respond to this so I know whether it went through. Thanks.

  128. Irene

    Hello WiSers,
    .
This is test number three. As you are aware, the member comments and internal mailing list has been broken for more than a month. This is a test to determine if it has now been fixed. If you receive this email would you please take a minutes to reply to this test internally via the member comments “Reply”. Thank you for your patience.
I also encourage your testing the Google Suite link from the Members Only menu by selecting the Member Responsibilities spreadsheet that Danielle put together.
After selecting the “Rotating Positions” tab at the lower left side of the spreadsheet, place your name in the column to the right of the date that you will be available to Chair. Thank you again,
    .

Sorry, I just saw that this works over the standard Zoom WiS, where we meet at present. Forget my link! With best wishes to all, Irene

To Danielle, I believe I filled in the Doodle and checked twice when I did it and now I can no longer check (although I have since received 2 reminders)!

I posted the question/comment below, which I also sent by email to all. Since no one answered my question I can only assume it was too stupid to deserve an answer. So I guess it’s strictly business tomorrow and so I do not need to prepare a prompt.

  136. Danielle

    Hi everyone,

As promised, here is your first reminder to fill out the doodle poll that will allow us to schedule our monthly meetings for the rest of the year (March – December).

As I said in my previous email, please complete the poll by 8 PM on Friday, February 5. (Don’t worry, I’ll send a final reminder on Friday morning.)

Final dates will be sent out prior to the business meeting on February 6.

Please note, the poll does not include:
School and other Holidays (I did keep May 1)
    July 4 weekend
The month of August (because of school holidays)

The poll is simple to fill out and should take about 5 minutes to complete:

Click or copy-paste this link: https://doodle.com/poll/rsf9n9dzzebvharr?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=link
Enter your name (or a pseudonym confirmed with me) into the box provided.
Use the check box below each date to select those when you’re available. Leave blank any date you can’t make. Click a date twice if you can make it, but it is not ideal. (A yellow check in parentheses will appear.)
Not all dates are immediately visible. Use the white circle with the small blue arrow that appears on the last visible date to scroll to later dates in the year (or back again).
To log your results, click the green “Send” button.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions. If you are having trouble and would like me to fill out the poll for you, please send me your availability for the year.

Please only leave blank dates you know you are not available. I know that some members may not know their full availability for the year. I can create another poll in the summer to confirm the scheduled dates for the second half of the year.

Do not share the link outside the group. In the spirit of transparency, everyone with the link can view each other’s choices. If you prefer to use a pseudonym, please confirm the name you use with me in order for your votes to be counted.

Grab you calendars and happy polling!

    Warm regards,
    Dani

I sent the original link we were given: https://youtu.be/pEMzBA1M-tU to many people on my mailing list in U.S. and other places, but it does not work at all when I click on it! PLEASE ADVISE ASAP!!!

    Dear Writers in Stuttgart,
    .
None of you has replied to my email of October 3rd, 2020, so first of all I hope this finds you well. Today I don’t even seem to be able to access the Writers in Stuttgart website with my computer anymore. I am wondering if the crappy vodaphone company that took over our internet (unitymedia worked just well for us) is the reason for this repeated difficulty. Additionally I just got a warning message saying my password to my gmail account was accidentally published online and that I should change my password immediately. I have never had this happen to me. Does any of you happen to know if that may be a fake or is likely to be real?
    .
Here’s the invitation to tomorrow’s ZOOM meeting, set up by the DAZ as requested by the Writers in Stuttgart in the minutes of the last ZOOM meeting.
    .
@ Ayo: Would you please be so kind as to host the meeting once again? I’m afraid to have to work late tomorrow, that means the very earliest I could probably by on ZOOM is around 4pm. But no guarantee that our meetings will be done by then.
    .
@ Katharine: In case Ayo can’t host tomorrow’s ZOOM meeting, I count on you to be so kind as to do so, since – as far as I know – you are the only other Writer in Stuttgart who knows how to do so.
    .
Please pass on this info to the other Writers in Stuttgart planning to read on October 23, 2020.
    .
    Thanks a lot,
    .

  152. Cindy

    Dear WiSers,
I feel compelled to forfeit my reading slot for the October reading because I have not been able to motivate myself to write something suitable for the topic.
I apologize for the late notice – i kept hoping I could come up with something but this time the world just feels too overwhelming and there seems nothing
left to say… Looks like we have some new members so that gives them room to step up to the plate…I will still try to attend the meeting and rehearsal in the hopes
of getting some inspiration from the group.
    Take care,
    Cindy

  153. Andrea

    Dear Writers in Stuttgart,

Thanks to Ayo, who has volunteered to host the regular meeting next Saturday (26 September) from 10am – 1pm as well as the rehearsal for our October livestream reading from 1:30pm to 3:30pm (same day), there is no need to move anything to any other date.

I would very much appreciate if one of those of you who have been in the group for longer than Ayo would be kind enough to chair the meeting (Jim usually takes minutes but might want to be reminded of his generous offer to do this).

Those willing to read on 23 October, pleace decide on a second rehearsal date and time and make sure the names of all of those willing to read their work on 23 October appear in the meeting minutes. I, for example, would like to read on 23 October.

Also, maybe you can talk with Ayo about the technology necessary to show the readers’ names at the beginning and the ending of each contribution?!? For Cristiane Pyka, for example, we could use “Christiane Pyka, Director of the DAZ, Stuttgart”.

Thanks for being understanding about me not being with you this Saturday.

    Stay safe, sane and happy!

    Andrea

  154. Andrea

    Dear Writers in Stuttgart,

I hope this email finds you all well. I am terribly sorry to announce that I have a funeral to attend out of town on September 26th and thus won’t be able to host/join our monthly meeting nor the (livestream) rehearsal. Personally, I think it might be easiest to ask the DAZ to move both the monthly meeting and our first rehearsal for the reading on October 23 to the following Saturday. Another option is for any of you to volunteer to host both the monthly meeting (anyone who has ever used zoom before, really) – AND / OR the rehearsal (ideally Ayo or Hannah).

Anybody volunteering to host any of the meetings as well as anybody willing to have one or both meetings on October 3rd (unless you are celebrating German Reunification that day, I guess), please reply here within the next 72 hours, so I can write an e-mail to the DAZ by Sunday evening and hopefully get back to you all with their reply concerning October 3rd within another 72 hours.

    Stay safe,
    Andrea

    1. Cindy

Hi Andrea, I could theoretically host the zoom meeting as I’ve done enough zoom teaching but I am on an Exkursion this coming Saturday 19 Sept and on my first out of town trip for the year on 3 October. Sorry.

      1. Andrea Ariman

        Hi Cindy,

Would you like to host the monthly meeting on 26 September from 10:00-13:00 hrs. and/or the rehearsal from 13:30-15:30 on the same day?

Please let us know asap so the WiSsers can plan accordingly.

        Best,
        Andrea

Thanks, Andrea! I‘d love to come, but unfortunately, I have to work this weekend. Relatedly, I signed up for the reading at the last meeting, and I‘ve genuinely been trying to write something for it, but so far, inspiration has eluded me. So please do feel free to let someone else take my place if someone‘s interested. Thanks and hopefully see you soon!

    2. Jim

      Thank you, Andrea,
I am not sure if everybody got the message that the minutes for July were finally posted. I have had internet problems all month. I noticed this morning with the message about the minutes do not show in Members’ news. For those interested, look at the members new for a summary of last month’s meeting and the full minutes.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

  156. Dr. Erica Louise Applezweig

Dear Jadi, Jim, Katharine & Barbara, I wrote to you all twice already – when I hit post, it disappeared. I’ll have to tell you about it when we next speak…Sour & Dour, Erica

  157. Katharine Schmidt

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS, JADI! You are an inspiration! And I look forward to reading the hard copy of your book.

Meanwhile, I have an urgent message for everyone concerning the extra August meeting set for Saturday, Aug. 22nd. I had planned to lead a discussion that day on the recent controversies over free speech — which can be dated to a letter to Harper’s magazine that was signed by a number of writers earlier this summer — but I realized that I cannot do the discussion on that date. The problem is that that I am in a time zone six hours to the west of you in Stuttgart, and I cannot fathom getting up to lead a discussion that would begin at 4 a.m. my time.

I would propose doing this discussion in September, although it may be tricky to find the right date, since I think we have a practice session in September for our next reading. Alternatively, if all of you are gung-ho to get started, I can send you a few background articles, and you can dive in this coming weekend.

I apologize for not thinking of this at an earlier time, but I am sure that you all have lots of work to share at the meeting in any case. I myself have been visiting my parents, along with other relatives, which has kept me busy. I hope you are all well, and I wish you a great summer’s end!

    All best,
    Katharine

      Hi Jadi,
Are you talking about links in WiS. I am getting your messages,
      Jim

  159. Jadi Campbell

    Dear Writers,

My new book is about to be published! The Trail Back Out is a collection of ten short stories. This is my fourth book, and my first finished work in four years.

From tales of Eddie, high on LSD and trapped by “What Died in the Fridge” or a compulsive gambler hiding during a Category Five storm in “Better Weather”, to the luminous title story of two strangers meeting by chance in the backwoods during a pandemic, I wanted to describe the pain and humor of being alive. Included in this collection are “Rules to Live By”, a funny and deeply thoughtful story about what we choose to teach our children. I wondered about our responsibility to others as a hunter is shot and left for dead in “The Green Under the Snow”. In “Do Dreams Float?” a wife considers a hit-man’s offer of revenge. And the eternal search for happiness is carried out by a gloomy little girl nicknamed ‘Princess Rain Clouds’.

I finished these tales during the coronavirus lockdown. These are descriptions of everyday life in strange times. Whether during the upheaval of the last century or the present COVID-19 crisis, The Trail Back Out will guide you through a labyrinth of questions about how to live and love.

The Trail Back Out will be published as paperback and eBook for Kindle on August 23, 2020. The version for Kindle is available now for preorder. Click on one of these links to order a copy:
    The Trail Back Out: USA
    The Trail Back Out: Germany

Information on all my books is available here:
    Jadi’s Books Amazon Page: USA

I wish you all a safe and healthy autumn. Thank you all, for being part of my journey as a writer.

    Happy reading,
    Jadi

    Hi Jim,
It appears as if you have turned off the function that one gets a message that a comment has been posted in one’s E-mail. I had suggested that you turn off being able to READ the comments in one’s E-mail inbox so that one is forced to go to the WiS website to see the comment, but I wasn’t thinking that one would not get a message that something has been posted. I did not get an E-mail about the last Zoom meeting from you. i did get it from Andrea – but I think that is because she sent it directly to everyone the old fashioned way. Is this right?
Let’s clarify this because I do have a few comments I’d like to make from the last meeting.
    OK. All for now.
    Ciao,
    Cindy

    1. Jim

      Hi Cindy,

I have not yet turned off the comment from showing in email. I am still researching how to do it. I like your suggestion for making sure that comments that are to be seen by all members do not show it in email first. We want members to use the website for all-member communications. Andrea sent te invitation by using Member Comments. Did you check your spam box?

Hopefully Member Comments is now working for everybody. Let me know if any of you are not getting email notifications.

      I will prioritize this feature.

      Thanks,

      Jim

      1. Cindy

        Hi Jim,
OK. It looks like then that I did not miss anything. My two comments regarding the last meeting – in order to improve our time management because some of us (especially gardeners) need to leave on time – I suggest the meeting open 15 minutes ahead of time in order to give people time to join the meeting and get their technical problems sorted out so that we can really start the meeting at 10am. Also – we need to go back to doing critiques first and business last – otherwise – things get drawn out. it’s just the nature of the beast. Other than that we have a good structure going and the online meetings work surprisingly well.
I hope all is well on your end.
        Take care,
        Cindy

Hello all, especially Cindy and Andrea,
    .
At 12:12 today Cindy sent the following email to the members list.
    .
    Dear WiSers,
    .
Thanks Jim for prompting the minutes so quickly.
I didn’t see any mention of the October meeting.
What became of Andrea’s letter to the DAZ?
    .
    Take care,
    Cindy

Why was this thread not entered in the members comments on the website? I am amazed, Cindy, after all the energy you and Anton put into trying to make the website viable and then not using it to communicate to the group really surprised me.
    .
This email thread is now in 17 different inboxes, deleted by some, never read by others, and not archived on the website. It is a relevant thread but should not be in an email back channel. In fact, by using an old backchannel email to communicate to the group, you also sent it to the three people that you insisted I remove from the email list.
    .
Based on your comment, I will update the minutes to correctly reflect the date of the online meeting you are referring to and I will copy Andreas letter and add it to the Minutes posts.
    .
This exposes the need to be able to post links to comments. There is another problem, Comments does not have a way to include paragraph spacing between thoughts. That is why I am putting a period in between paragraphs.
    .
I will do the update today and let you all know when it is done

    Jim
    .

  164. James Palik

The meeting dates are fine with me. – I also encourage everyone to look at the meeting dates below and reply. I will post the new dates in the 2020 meeting dates later today unless there is some outpouring of objection to any specific date.
    Jim

  165. Katharine

    Hi Andrea,

Just in time, I hope, I would like to add that the dates look fine to me, too!

  166. Jadi

I second Erica’s assurances: I’m not going anywhere either. Dates look good!

  167. Erica

    Dear Andrea,
Your proposed dates for monthly meetings for the rest of the year are fine with me. I’m not going anywhere!
    Thanks!!
    Erica

  168. Andrea

    Dear Writers in Stuttgart,
The DAZ has asked me to define our meeting dates for the rest of 2020. I would like to suggest 26th September, 17th October, 7th November, and 5th December, 2020, 10am – either at the DAZ or via ZOOM, depending how the pandemic develops until then.
Unless any of you complain to me in writing via the website within the next 7 days, I assume that all of you are OK with these dates and I will confirm them with the DAZ.
Wishing you a nice continuation of Spring!
    Andrea

  169. Jadi B. Campbell

11 May already…. minutes look great, Jim. Good meeting and good to see everyone last Saturday.

  170. Andrea

    Hi Jim,

I got your e-mail. Wishing everyone a relaxing Sunday evening – see you next Saturday, May 9th for our additional WiSsers’ ZOOM-together.

  171. Erica Applezweig

Got it Jim! Hope you and Jane are well and hope to “see” you soon! Virtual hugs, Erica

Just checking if I can reply to a comment, too. Guess I can. Thanks, Jim!

  172. Jadi B. Campbell

    Hi Jim,
Ayo and Sabine have both been vetted and approved, and invited to join us. Thanks for posting the minutes and for all your diligence! We missed you at the last meeting.

    Hello Wiser’s,

The minutes to the April 25 meeting are now posted. The website has also been updated. Please reply to this post by opening it in the link and using Post Comment indicating that you got it.

Remember, if you simply reply to the email, your reply goes into the wind. You have to reply via the link to the website. Thank you again, I am still testing the comments page.

Hi everybody, The minutes for the March 7 meeting are now on the website.

Hello everyone, I am finally getting the website repaired again.
    .
Jadi’s and Katharine’s Biographies are now fixed. I am still testing comments. It appears that comments are working properly. You should know, if you click the link provided when you get an email, the link will take you directly into the comments area without requiring a login or password. This is by design of the system.
    .
Remember, to correctly reply to a comment so that everybody can see it, click the link. More on this later. If you simply reply to the email, only the person that made the comment will get the reply.
    .
Thank, you for putting up with so many test emails – Jim

    Hi,
Similarls to Erica, I was able to jump right into the site without logging in. I figured that was because I have logged in from this computer previously, and the log-in was saved, somehow. If that is not the case, well, then I will have to get back down to my office and check on my password.
Thanks for keeping an eye on the system, Jim!

    Dear Barbara and Vlora,

    Happy 2020 everyone,

I have consented to let DAZ and our group list me as the initial contact person for anyone interested in joining us or knowing more about our group.

I have one concern, and that comes with the increased travel Uwe and I plan to do. For example, I’ll be gone all of February and the first days of March. When I am out of the country (and hopefully somewhere exotic that no one can easily reach me!), I’d like permission to refer any queries to you as my co-vetters for new members.

    Thanks so much,
    Jadi

  182. Vlora

    Got it too

  183. Jim

    Hi WiSers,

It looks like the Comments are fixed. I did nothing. The had to have gotten broken with the hack that took place in October and fixed based on a WordPress update.
Will each of you please reply to this post. This is the only way I will know that it is fixed.

    Thank you – Jim

Hi Erica, I believe I’m on the screening committee – where are the writing samples? I haven’t received any. I am now home again and would be happy to screen their work. Barbara I think is still on the screening committee; has someone taken Michael Hilton’s place? If someone sends me Mimi’s work and/or Mohammad’s I will read it asap. See you all on Saturday!

  185. Erica Applezweig

Hi to the people who are screening prospective new members! Two friends from the NEAT theater have spoken to me about joining.

The 1st is Mimi, who says she has already sent some writing samples in but has not heard back from anyone.. She would like to come to the meeting next Saturday. Could someone please screen her writings and get back to me asap? We are friends on FB and I can let her know if she can come or not.

The 2nd is a guy I know as Saco – his first name is Mohammad. He told me yesterday he will also be sending some writing samples in this week. If you receive them, please let me know if he can come to the meeting or not!! I am also friends with him on FB, and I will let him know. THANKS!!! Erica

  186. Jim

    Hi WiSers,

The website is now current. The next reading time is correct and the correct graphic is on the home page. Thank you everyone for your patience.

    Jim

  187. Jim

    Thank you Sarah,

I am working on the website and have been having some problems with comments updating correctly. This is helpful.

For everyone, the time of the reading is now 20:00 (8:00 pm) on the home page and has been updated in the public event schedule and our next reading page.

    Jim
    Jim

  188. Sarah D.

    Hi everyone,
as I can not add attachments to the comments, I will send the digital version with the changed time to all the email-adresses on the Mailinglist.
    Grüßle,
    Sarah D.

  189. Jadi

here is an update from Crete. I checked my correspondence and I did tell Michael Hecht the evening began at 8:00. I was not at the meeting when the time was changed, and did not know to tell him otherwise. Please let me know if you want me to contact him to come earlier. Also please let me know what is decided about when we begin.

Posting a sign on the door for people to know to return at 8 for the beginning is a good option.

    Hope this gets figured out,
    Hellos from Greece,
    Jadi

RE: LIFT Listing our reading as beginning at 20:00

    Hi Everyone,

Our contract is with Dreigrsochentheater and not with LIFT. All of our official advertising states that we begin the reading at 19:00. We should proceed as we planned to do all along. It will be fine. The error lies with LIFT and not with us. We have no reason to take responsibility for their mistake. And no reason to suddenly do two shows. Unless we decide as a group to do so.

Have a good rehearsal and warm greetings from Crete.

    Hello all,
To reply to either my or Andrea’s email (comment) click the link in the email and it will take you to the website. Replying in email will not post the message in the site for others to see. – Jim

  192. Jim

    Hi Andrea,
The soundcheck at 12:00 sounds good to me. Other than people who want to continue practicing their reading, I do not think we will need more readings.
Are you going to moderate tomorrow. I can get the key on Friday.
Do you know what time the Dreigroschen Theater has our reading scheduled?
Who is LIFT? Can we contact LIFT and have them change the time to 19:00? We are still 9 days away.
    Jim

  193. Andrea

    Dear Writers in Stuttgart,

I think we could do the soundcheck at the DAZ starting at 12pm, depending on how many folks bring new texts to be critiqued.

Please note that I accidentally found out today that LIFT announces our reading as starting at 8pm instead of ar 7pm. Does anyone have any idea as to what to do about this?

All our postcards that Sarah Dressel has sent out since August read 19 October ’19 at 19 o’clock, as agreed upon this Spring and written down in our monthly meeting minutes.

    Best,

  194. Jim

    Hi WiSers,

Cindy just replied from her email with the following question. so I am pasting here and replying here.

    “Hi Jim,

Shouldn’t this work so that you have to go to the website to see the
comments? The whole point is NOT to communicate via E-mail – but
Rather through the website. Right? So I am confused.

I am answering this from my E-mail – not through the WiS website.”

    Take Care,
    Cindy

  195. Jim

    Hi again readers,

I meant to say to reply to the comment on the website. After reading the message from my email inbox I realized how here could be interrupted as reply via email reply. I have no idea where an email reply will be delivered. It should go to the whole membership but it has not been tested. At some point it will all be clear. Until then, thank for your patience.

If or when you do reply, let me know where your are replying from. Your email on your computer or from the comment on the WiS website.

    Thank you,

    Jim

  196. Jim

    Hello Readers

I spoke on email earlier with Erica. She said not to bring the audio system to her house for our Friday evening practice because it would disturb her neighbors. She suggested that we test the headset after the DAZ meeting on Saturday after our meeting. I will plan to stay. It would be nice if there are a few others that would also stay to test the headset. Let me know what you think by replying here. This will be a good test of our communications work in the WiS website.

This is an opportunity for members who have not been to a meeting in awhile to see our new audio system.

    Dear fellow WiSers,
All members should now receive notifications when comments are made or replied to. So, I am celebrating on having solved this problem by reminding you about Katharine’s panel discussion tonight at the DAZ.

At 7 p.m., a panel of four local writers — including three WiS members! — Join Katharine for a discussion on politics in literature. She had a great time last year with a similar discussion on “Literature and #MeToo,” and it would be fun to have a few more of you there with us! The event is free, and will run until about 8:30, with some leeway to stay a bit later if anyone would like.

Thank you all for being patient in my getting comments notifications fixed. See you all tonight.
    Jim

  198. Sarah Dressel

I mentioned yesterday that my “chimera” poem I workshopped with the group was chosen as a semi-finalist in Lefty Blondie Press editor broadside series.
I also have a poem published recently in Anodyne Magazine based in Berlin in their Vol. 2 issue.

I have great news to share. The University of Colorado in Boulder, Writing and Rhetoric Program, wants my story Family Myths for their Hindsight Journal. No money, but I get copies, and the journal is sold at college writing program events all over the country. I workshopped this story with the group and read it at a reading. Thanks to all for your invaluable feedback.

    1. Katherine

Wow! That’s wonderful news Jadi! Congratulations!

Hi everybody – Please think about what you want to put on the agenda for the annual meeting on February 10.

      Jim

  50. James Palik

    Hi everyone,
    .
Today I updated the membership roster and mailing list. I added Katherine Breeden, Cihan Azak, and Harish Srinivasan. Welcome aboard.

    Jim
    Webmaster

  51. Jadi Campbell

    Jim
    .

  62. Jadi Campbell

PS: In checking I see that the Member News lists October 29 as our regular meeting date. This is incorrect. It is October 15.

  63. WordPressSupport

Last week Jadi posted the minutes to our September 17th meeting.

Note: Next Sunday October 2, 2022 Katharine Schmidt is hosting a Sweet & Savory pot luck at her house. She will have coffee and tea and a bottle of Sekt, sparkling water; you are welcome to bring special drinks, too! Katharine is planning to make a chocolate cake with coconut frosting, and another WiSer has promised a cherry pie. It would be great to have some non-dessert food too, things that are easy to serve and eat while we hang out.

    Time: 14:30 – 18:00
    Place: Katharine’s house – In den Holzwiesen 7, 73076 Ostfildern/Scharnhauser Park

We need a Chair and a minute taker.
    .
Please reply with either a yes or no so we all know how many to plan for?
    .
    Jim

    1. Danielle

  79. Jadi

    Ciao,
    Charles

  82. Katharine

    Take care,
    Cindy
    EX WiS Treasurer

  85. Erica

    Take care,
    Cindy
    EX-Treasurer

  94. Jadi

    Best,
    Katharine

      Jim

Hi Jim, in my files of our past reading programs I don’t see any that were missed on your list. – Jadi

  109. Erica

Will Ellen, Dan, and Jadi please reply to this comment from inside the website with the message “Comments work” I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you.

Thanks.

  128. Irene

    Dear Members,

    Warm regards,
    Dani

      Jim

I wish you all a safe and healthy autumn. Thank you all, for being part of my journey as a writer.

    Happy reading,

    Hi Jim,
It appears as if you have turned off the function that one gets a message that a comment has been posted in one’s E-mail.

  172. Jadi B. Campbell

    Hi Jim,
Ayo and Sabine have both been vetted and approved, and invited to join us. Thanks for posting the minutes and for all your diligence! We missed you at the last meeting.

RE: LIFT Listing our reading as beginning at 20:00

    Hi Everyone,

Our contract is with Dreigrsochentheater and not with LIFT. All of our official advertising states that we begin the reading at 19:00. We should proceed as we planned to do all along. It will be fine. The error lies with LIFT and not with us. We have no reason to take responsibility for their mistake. And no reason to suddenly do two shows. Unless we decide as a group to do so.

Have a good rehearsal and warm greetings from Crete.

    —Jadi

  192. Jim

    Hi Andrea,
The soundcheck at 12:00 sounds good to me.

Thank you Jadi. You are the first to reply. This invitation was direct and simple. It should show who our real core members are.
