WiS Meeting Minutes – July 18, 2020

10:15 – The prompt: What happened during the blackout

The following people shared their prompt stories: Barbara, Cindy, Shalini, Ayo, Erica, Jadi, Katharine, Vlora, Hanah, and Andrea.

12:00 – Readings: 

  1. Barbara – Two Poems.
  2. Jim – WorkFlowy, an addiction. How trying a software system to stay focused and organized took over and became first a compulsion and then an addiction.
  3. Ayo – a science fiction play about Covid-19 and how humanity’s creators were trying to develop a cauldron that would work like a vaccination to save humanity.
  4. Cindy – Coronavirus comes full circle. How the Coronavirus relates to botany and other forms of life and nature keeps the ecosystem in balance. Very different and introspective.
  5. Erica – The Corona Room – a surreal dream, and The gorilla in the box – a story about a toy gorilla in a cage that sings two stanzas of the Macarena.

Business:

  • Andrea introduced the WiS special reading for the DAZ in October … Christiane will give an introduction. The October meeting is still planned as an online meeting. Ayo explained the concept – Either in ZOOM or similar to ZOOM – A group discussion followed. Youtube, and Facebook streaming is possible. If Youtube or Facebook are used for live streaming we could leave the event and readings online for a limited period of time. One week was discussed.
  • Eight people may give readings at the DAZ event. So far, Andrea, Jim, Jadi, Katharine, Cindy and Barbara have committed to writing stories for the DAZ event. 
  • The DAZ will have another simultaneous event for the October anniversary meeting taking place at Hospital hoff.
  • August 22 was set for the next meeting. 
  • Note: Katharine will not be able to chair the August meeting.  She will be in Florida visiting her parents.
  • The first half of the meeting will be discussion (replacing the prompt) with the last half of the meeting member readings and critiques.
